Educational Degree Programs
Students pursue regular degree programs in the following areas at the BS, MS, or PhD level:
- Computer Science (CMSC)
- Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Computer Engineering (CE)
- Information Systems (IFS)
There is no separate degree program in information assurance. As part of the regular degree requirements, each student must include four approved core courses in information assurance with grade of B or higher. Upon completion of these four courses and the usual degree requirements, the Dean of Engineering will write a letter of recognition that the student has completed the requirements of a track of study in information assurance at UMBC. Thus information assurance is like a certificate track within certain existing degree programs. Typically, the four information assurance courses will count towards the usual degree requirements.
To apply for a letter of recognition, send email to Dr. Alan Sherman with a copy of your UMBC transcript and a list of the four core IA courses that you have taken with grade B or higher at UMBC.
To join, each prospective student must apply for admission to any of the existing degree programs in CMSC, EE, CE, or IFS.
